We’re back with another streaming guide! October is filled with brand new shows, movies, documentaries and more. This month we’re absolutely sat for the release of the second season of Shrinking starring Harrison Ford and Jason Segel on Apple TV+, Salem’s Lot which takes place as the same universe as It on Crave and the fourth instalment of Outer Banks on Netflix. Other shows and movies set to hit streaming platforms this month include So You Want to be a Muslim? on CBC Gem, the fifteenth season of The Real Housewives of New York City on Hayu, the sixth season of the documentary style sitcom What We do in the Shadows on Disney+ and Knox Goes Away starring Michael Keaton on Prime Video.

Vigil, Season 1 (Premieres October 4)

When a crew member is found dead on board Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, Detective Amy Silva (Suranne Jones, Doctor Foster, Coronation Street) is called to investigate. The catch? The UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and Amy must join the crew to investigate. When Detective Kirsten Longacre’s (Rose Lesliem, Game of Thrones, Honeymoon) investigation on land leads to tragedy, it becomes clear that these two deaths are part of a coordinated attack. Kirsten makes powerful enemies when she unearths a top-secret cover up, but, when a significant arrest reveals a grave threat to Vigil, the forces must work together to save Vigil and her crew.

Catastrophe (Premieres October 11)

A comedy following an Irish woman and an American man who make a bloody mess as they struggle to fall in love in London. Clumsy lust, instant pregnancy, and genuine disaster provide the foundation for this flaming hovel of a relationship. In a mess of events always in danger of slipping out of their grasp, Rob and Sharon must also learn to deal with her largely awful friend (Ashley Jensen, Extras and Ugly Betty); his eccentric Bostonian mother (Carrie Fisher, Star Wars); and attempt to navigate the choppy waters of their ever-more-complicating lives. Can Sharon, “an extraordinarily good-smelling woman,” and Rob, “a sturdy love-maker,” steer through the increasingly thorny situations they find themselves in and still find time for an emergency shag in a stairwell? Prepare to find out.

Eternal You (Premieres October 2)

This documentary examines the story of people who live on as digital replicants in the pockets of their loved ones. With the help of artificial intelligence and Big Data, a dream comes true that is as old as mankind itself: eternal life. It’s probably the biggest business idea of the digital age. Following tech start-ups which use a wealth of data to develop “digital doppelgangers,” which promise to immortalize people on earth. The film raises a number of questions, such as: Can a digital entity compensate for the loss of a loved one? How will human memory be affected? And do we not have the right to forget?

The Babadook (Premieres October 4)

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her ‘out of control’ 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called ‘The Babadook’ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son’s behaviour, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.

The Choice 2024 (Premieres October 9)

Frontline’s critically acclaimed series returns with interwoven investigative biographies of both candidates, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, focusing on their careers and personal lives. The two-hour special from veteran Frontline filmmaker Michael Kirk and his team will include interviews with those who know the candidates best, revealing key moments that shape how they would lead America.

Possessor (Premieres October 11)

Using brain-implant technology, corporate assassin Tasya Vos takes control of other people’s bodies to execute high profile targets and becomes trapped inside a mind that threatens to obliterate her. 

The Righteous (Premieres October 18)

A burdened man feels the wrath of a vengeful God after he and his wife are visited by a mysterious stranger.

Harder Better Faster Stronger (Premieres October 23)

Misinformation expert Timothy Caulfield investigates the world of toxic male wellness culture, challenging its dangerous mash-up of ideology and archaic gender norms.

So You Want to be a Muslim? (Premieres October 23)

Introduces viewers to five North American individuals who have left their respective faith traditions to embrace Islam. For these five – Barbara, Stephanie, Rima, Johnae and Eli - the transition from one religion to another can be simultaneously enlightening and daunting. Each of the people profiled in the film takes us on a journey that, collectively, illuminates the striking diversity of the Muslim community.

It Follows (Premieres October 25)

For 19-year-old Jay, fall should be about school, boys and weekends at the lake. Yet, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter she suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions; she can't shake the sensation that someone, or something, is following her. As the threat closes in, Jay and her friends must somehow escape the horrors that are only a few steps behind.

No Way to Die (Premieres October 30)

Against the backdrop of expanded access to Canada's “Medical Assistance in Dying” law, the film provides extraordinary access to individuals struggling with the single biggest decision of their life: whether to live or die.

The Real Housewives of New York City, Season 15 (Premieres October 1)

Back for another bite out of the Big Apple, this flourishing group of friends - Sai De Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Jenna Lyons, Jessel Taank and Brynn Whitfield – are joined by elite new faces Racquel Chevremont and Rebecca Minkoff. But things can change in a New York minute when rumours start spreading among the ladies and only time will tell if longstanding loyalties are strong enough to weather the storm as secrets shake things up.

The Simple Life (Premieres October 5)

Two wealthy socialites are shown to struggle to do menial, low-paying jobs such as cleaning rooms, farm work, serving meals in fast-food restaurants, and working as camp counselors. 

The Real Housewives of Potomac, Season 9 (Premieres October 6)

The return of Karen Huger, Gizelle Bryant, Ashley Darby, Wendy Osefo and Mia Thornton. The ladies are joined by new housewives Stacey Rusch, former QVC host, and Keiarna Stewart, a successful entrepreneur. Stacey has an 8-year-old daughter and is in the middle of a divorce. Keiarna has reservations about some of the ladies, but is trying to forge her own place within the group.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Season 5 (Premieres October 7)

Capt. Glenn and his expert crew set sail on Parsifal III to the luxury party capital of the

world, Ibiza. While Ibiza is known for its sunny day parties and crystal-clear coast, it’s stormy waters ahead for the crew as they navigate blossoming boatmances, competitive co- workers and tense personal dynamics, all while trying to raise the bar every charter.

House of Villains, Season 2 (Premieres October 9)

The hit competition elimination series, hosted by Joel McHale, returns to the iconic lair from Season 1 with a new set of mischievous reality all-stars. With new twists and turns throughout the challenges, the villains must scheme, strategise and shadow each other for a chance to win $200,000 and the title of “America’s Ultimate Supervillain.”

Family Secrets: The Disappearance of Alissa Turney, Season 1 (Premieres October 14)

Explores the disappearance of Alissa Turney in 2001, with her sister Sarah giving unprecedented access to the continuation of her story, including a recently unearthed trove of home videos, as she re-examines her and Alissa’s childhood. Sarah makes chilling discoveries, breaking through years of manipulation to reconstruct the truth of the past and be free of her father’s influence. Sarah’s final conversation with her father is haunting and a testament to her tenacity and unending search for Alissa.

Serial Killer Capital: Los Angeles, Season 1 (Premieres October 21)

Examines the brutal murders that wreaked havoc in South Los Angeles beginning in the 1980s and continuing through the early 2000s. The City of Angels became a city of horrors as a serial killer, whom authorities began referring to as the Southside Slayer, devastated the community.

Made in Chelsea, Season 28 (Premieres October 22)

Documenting the antics and heartbreaks of a close knit group of twenty-somethings in London's most exclusive borough, Kensington & Chelsea.

Salem’s Lot (Premieres October 3)

New Line Cinema’s film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975 bestselling novel Salem’s Lot reunites the producing teams behind the record-breaking horror franchises The Conjuring universe and the It In the Max Original film, author Ben Mears returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire. 

The Queen of My Dreams (Premieres October 4)

The Canadian Screen Award-winning film starring Amrit Kaur (The Sex Lives Of College Girls), makes its Canadian streaming debut. Azra is worlds apart from her conservative Muslim mother. When her father suddenly dies on a trip home to Pakistan, Azra finds herself on a Bollywood-inspired journey through memories, both real and imagined; from her mother’s youth in Karachi to her own coming- of-age in rural Canada. From director Fawzia Mirza.

Fat Joe Talks (Premieres October 4)

Hosted by and executive produced by Grammy award-nominated artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Fat Joe, STARZ’s first-ever weekly interview premieres with award-winning music artist as its inaugural guest. In each 30-minute episode, Fat Joe brings audiences along for intimate conversations and never-told-before stories with celebrities and newsmakers who drive the cultural zeitgeist. Upcoming guests also include: Oscar-nominated Actress, Grammy, and NAACP Award Winner Mary J. Blige; Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries; actor and award-winning hip hop artist T.I.; Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Babyface; as well as appearances by Grammy-nominated hip hop artist Latto, reggae artist Buju Banton, and rapper Remy Ma. 

The Omen (Premieres October 5)

American diplomat Robert (Gregory Peck) adopts Damien (Harvey Stephens) when his wife, Katherine (Lee Remick), delivers a stillborn child. After Damien's first nanny hangs herself, Father Brennan (Patrick Troughton) warns Robert that Damien will kill Katherine's unborn child. Shortly thereafter, Brennan dies and Katherine miscarries when Damien pushes her off a balcony. As more people around Damien die, Robert investigates Damien's background and realizes his adopted son may be the Antichrist.

The Franchise (Premieres October 6)

From executive producers Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci, The Franchise follows the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. The comedy series shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to ask the question: how exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? Because every f*ck-up has an origin story. 

Caddo Lake (Premieres October 10)

From producer M. Night Shyamalan, Caddo Lake was inspired after Held and George came across a photograph of the real Caddo Lake online, leading to many visits to the cypress forest that rests on the border of Texas and Louisiana. When an eight-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes, a series of past deaths and disappearances start to link together, forever altering a broken family’s history. 

Sweetpea (Premieres October 10)

Ella Purnell stars as Rhiannon Lewis, a quiet wallflower who develops a vengeful and intoxicatingly liberating taste for murder, in the new six-part series, produced by See-Saw Films and fanboy, in association with Sky Studios. In the darkly comedic and twisted coming-of-“rage” thriller, Rhiannon doesn’t make much of an impression, people walk past her in the street without a second glance, she’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is sick. Then, everything in her life turns upside down and she’s pushed over the edge and loses control. Suddenly the wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything. 

Bad Boys: Ride or Die (Premieres October 11)

From Sony Pictures Entertainment, the world’s favorite Bad Boys are back with their iconic mix of edge-of-your seat action and outrageous comedy, but this time with a twist: Miami’s finest are now on the run. 

The Office Movers (Premieres October 11)

This first-ever television project from Brampton-born comedy duo Jae and Trey Richards takes viewers behind-the-scenes of a fictional moving company and showcases the hilarious, yet very relatable, struggles of working in a family bus. The six-episode, half-hour comedy follows Everett (Jae) and Eric Saunders (Trey), two brothers reluctantly following in their father’s footsteps in commercial office moving. Everett, the owner of Shazam Moving, is fighting to keep his business afloat against stiff competition. Alongside his brother Eric, and a quirky crew of co-workers, Everett struggles to keep it together to land a big enough contract to be bought out by Zenithon Logistics, a moving industry giant. The Saunders brothers battle each other, their family and their crew, as they face the unforgiving nature of the Toronto office moving game to make a last-ditch attempt to cash out, and leave moving behind for good. 

The Confidante (Premieres October 11)

Inspired by true events, this psychological thriller follows Christelle “Chris” Blandin, a rock music-obsessed Parisian, who, after witnessing the harrowing November 13, 2015 terrorist attacks, quickly latches onto a community of survivors. Claiming that her best friend Vincent was one of dozens critically injured at the Bataclan Theatre, Chris becomes an indispensable resource for the group, working her way into a prominent role in a survivors’ association. Though her commitment seems relentless, discrepancies begin to pepper her story, raising serious doubts among the true victims of the tragedy. 

Terrifier 2 (Premieres October 11)

Resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to Miles County to terrorize a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night.

I Am Not a Monster: The Lois Riess Murders (Premieres October 15)

Explores the 2018 murder case of Lois Riess, a Minnesota grandmother who killed her husband and went on the run. Riess shares her story, revealing a disturbing family history and gambling addiction that led to her reprehensible actions.

Born Hungry (Premieres October 21)

Sash, a fine-dining establishment in an upscale Toronto neighbourhood, is a world away from its well-known chef’s humble beginnings on the streets of Chennai as a seven-year-old street kid hustling for survival. Sash Simpson’s journey of working his way through the ranks of North 44 while fostering dreams of opening his own restaurant is nothing short of astonishing. Now, on his return to India for the first time since he was adopted into a Toronto family with 31 siblings (a remarkable tale of its own), Simpson embarks on a culinary tasting tour with adventurous local chefs. Memories are stirred by the vibrant smells and sights of bustling metropolises where Simpson looks for clues about his early days, including finding the movie theatre he used to clean in exchange for a place to sleep. The contrast between his present and past is stark but provides a chance for closure to questions he’s harboured about his origins for so long.

When an LA-based millennial known as Guru Jagat becomes the face of Kundalini yoga, her meteoric rise to fame and stunning fall from grace expose a multi-billion-dollar spiritual empire fraught with abuse. This docuseries paints a portrait of a seeker turned guru and examines the complicated intersection of spirituality, cultural appropriation, and capitalism. 

Zombieland (Premieres October 24)

After a virus turns most people into zombies, the world's surviving humans remain locked in an ongoing battle against the hungry undead. Four survivors -- Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) and his cohorts Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) -- abide by a list of survival rules and zombie-killing strategies as they make their way toward a rumored safe haven in Los Angeles.

The Rental (Premieres October 26)

Two couples on an oceanside getaway grow suspicious that the host of their seemingly perfect rental house may be spying on them. Before long, what should have been a celebratory weekend trip turns into something far more sinister.

Somebody Somewhere, Season 3 (Premieres October 27)

Written, starring, and executive produced by comedian and singer Bridget Everett, HBO’s Peabody Award-winning comedy series returns for a third and final season. The series follows Sam Miller (Everett), a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mould. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in, but don’t give up.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza (Premieres October 25)

Released in 2005 by SEGA, the ‘Yakuza’ game series was positioned as an entertaining game for adults, which found massive fanfare amongst its target audience. The series depicts the lives of fierce yet passionate gangsters and people living in a huge entertainment district, Kamurochō, a fictional district modeled after the violent Shinjuku ward’s Kabukichō, that acts as the backdrop of the gameplay. Like a Dragon: Yakuza showcases modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, such as the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that games in the past have not been able to explore.
