Watch List: 50+ Shows and Movies to Stream in July 2024

Summer is in full swing and there are some fun new shows and movies coming to streaming guides this July. It’s going to be a particularly good month for new and returning crime shows (my personal favourite genre), including the Apple TV+’s Lady in the Lake, Disney+’s brand-new docuseries Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer, Netflix’s fourth season of Unsolved Mysteries and Hayu’s 34th season of the popular true crime series Snapped. Other exciting releases include Crave’s Faye featuring Faye Dunaway, CBC Gem’s Canadian slasher Slash/Back and Prime Video’s original series Space Cadet. Keeping reading for the full list of what we’re recommending on Apple TV+, CBC Gem, Crave, Disney+, Hayu, Netflix Canada and Prime Video in July 2024.
Apple TV+
Sunny (Premieres July 10)
Starring Rashida Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first, Suzie resents Sunny’s Attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship. Together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family and become dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.
Fly Me to the Moon (Premieres July 12)
This is a sharp, stylish comedy-drama starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, set against the high-stakes backdrop of NASA’s historic Apollo 11 moon landing. Brought in to fix NASA’s public image, sparks fly in all directions as marketing maven Kelly Jones (Johansson) wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Davis’ (Tatum) already difficult task. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as backup and the countdown truly begins.
Omnivore (Premieres July 19)
Narrated by renowned chef René Redzepi, this global series explores the ingredients that built societies, shaped our beliefs and forever altered the human story. From salt flats in Peru to coffee forests in Rwanda to wild tuna off the coast of Spain, each episode of “Omnivore” celebrates the way we grow, transform and consume the world’s best resources — the ones we eat.
Lady in the Lake (Premieres July 19)
When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) is a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Sherwood (Moses Ingram) is a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger. From visionary director Alma Har’el, “Lady in the Lake” emerges as a feverish noir thriller and an unexpected tale of the price women pay for their dreams.
Time Bandits (Premieres July 24)
Embark on a comedic, high-stakes journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an 11-year-old history nerd. Together, they set out on a thrilling quest to save the boy’s parents — and the world.
CBC Gem
The Dry, Season 2 (Premieres July 3)
Shiv’s 36 and seven months sober. She’s determined to get sobriety right this time and steer clear of all her old temptations and triggers. But what if the biggest threat to Shiv’s stability turns out to be closer to home? Giving up alcohol is one thing... but what about giving up her dysfunctional family? Can Shiv stay sober and still have the normal things in life, the things most people take for granted: a career, a relationship, a drama-free family... Or will something have to be sacrificed to keep her on the dry?
Citizen Ashe (Premieres July 3)
The story of sports legend and social activist Arthur Ashe. Known to most for his stellar sports career - Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open winner and the first Black player to be selected for the US Davis Cup Team - this film uncovers Ashe’s personal evolution; how his activism grew and embraced not only the Civil Rights movement and African-Americans but all oppressed peoples throughout the world. Ashe died of AIDS-related complications in 1993 and was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom the same year.
COPA 71 (Premieres July 5)
Told by the pioneering women who participated in it and built from archives unseen for fifty years, this is the extraordinary story of the 1971 Women’s Soccer World Cup, a tournament witnessed by record crowds that has been written out of sporting history – until now.
Midnight in Paris (Premieres July 5)
This is a romantic comedy set in Paris about a family that goes there because of business, and two young people who are engaged to be married in the fall have experiences there that change their lives. It's about a young man's great love for a city, Paris, and the illusion people have that a life different from theirs would be much better.
Blackberry (Premieres July 6)
Following the story of Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, the two men who charted the course of the spectacular rise and catastrophic demise of the world’s first smartphone. Seemingly overnight, the duo revolutionized the way people work, communicate and connect, with millions of people around the world addicted to their BlackBerrys and the company completely dominating the market. That is, until some shady business dealings, personal grievances, and, perhaps most dangerously, the iPhone, devastated the company’s incredible success.
Slash/Back (Premieres July 13)
Pangnirtung, Nunavut: A sleepy hamlet, nestled in the majestic mountains of Baffin Island in the Arctic Ocean, wakes up to a typical summer day. No School, no cool boys (well... except one), and 24-hour sunlight. But for Maika (Tasiana Shirley) and her ragtag friends, the usual summer is suddenly not in the cards when they discover an alien invasion threatening their hometown. These teenagers have been underestimated their whole lives and, using makeshift weapons and their horror movie knowledge, they show the aliens you don't f*ck with the girls from Pang.

Snapped, Season 34 (Premieres July 8)
Who are these women and what drives them to kill? This hit true crime series profiles the fascinating cases of women accused of murder. Did they really do it? And, if so, why? Whether the motivation was revenge against a cheating husband, the promise of a hefty insurance payoff, or putting an end to years of abuse, the reasons are as varied as the women themselves. From socialites to secretaries, female killers share one thing in common: at some point, they all just...Snapped!
Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, Season 15 (Premieres July 10)
After a couple of significantly groundbreaking years in Los Angeles luxury real estate, thE housing market has taken a turn for the worse. Between high interest rates, the “Mansion Tax” and a low inventory of homes, the city’s hottest agents Josh Altman, Josh Flagg and Tracy Tutor are back and feeling a new kind of heat. Stuck in the middle of a shaky market, deals are dragging out, taking much longer to close than before. The agents find themselves accepting deals they never would have previously and getting more innovative with their strategies, employing any means necessary to close the deal.
The Real Housewives of Orange County, Season 18 (Premieres July 11)
Prepare for a whirlpool of emotions as The Real Housewives of Orange County returns. This season brings back Shannon Storms Beador, Heather Dubrow, Tamra Judge, Gina Kirschenheiter, Emily Simpson, and Jennifer Pedranti. New to the season is housewife and former golf reporter Katie Ginella, a friend of Gina who instantly wedges herself into the group along with her opinions. Familiar face Alexis Bellino (seasons 5-8) rejoins the franchise as a friend, bringing her fiery personality and a heightened level of drama.

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire (Premieres July 4)
From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, comes an explosive, action-packed adventure that follows Kong’s journey to find his family through an undiscovered layer of Hollow Earth—and what he uncovers inadvertently brings forth the most dangerous threat to mankind yet… one that can only be countered (and possibly conquered) by the combined forces of Kong and Godzilla, now evolved like never before.
Quad Gods (Premieres July 10)
Following the lives of Richard, Blake, and Prentice, three New York men with quadriplegia who meet at a Mount Sinai neurological rehabilitation centre and later decide to form the first all quadriplegic esports gaming team, calling themselves the Quad Gods. Utilizing adaptive devices to help them access gaming technology, the Quad Gods quickly become fierce competitors while forming a close bond of friendship and support. But gaming is more than just a hobby for them — it’s actually part of a cutting edge neurological rehab process that helps engage the brain in new ways as part of their recovery.
Made for TV with Boman Martinez-Reid (Premieres July 12)
Starring and executive produced by trailblazing Canadian multihyphenate Boman Martinez-Reid, the all-new, six-episode Crave Original comedy, follows Boman as he embarks on a hilarious and slightly awkward quest for television fame as he explores various TV genres. With the guidance of real-life renowned celebrity advisors, he puts his skills to the test, hoping to discover the one that will propel him to television fame.
The Book Of Clarence (Premieres July 12)
From visionary filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, comes a bold new take on the timeless Biblical-era story. Streetwise but down-on-his-luck, Clarence (LaKeith Stanfield), is struggling to find a better life for his family, while fighting to free himself of debt. Captivated by the power and glory of the rising messiah and His apostles, he risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, and ultimately discovers that the redemptive power of belief may be his only way out.
The Serpent Queen, Season 2 (Premieres July 12)
Catherine de Medici (Samantha Morton) is Queen Regent of France now that her son, Charles IX has come of age. Distracted by the personal conflicts of the Valois children, a new mysterious prophet named Edith (Isobel Jesper Jones) gains a loyal following who vow to challenge the current religious establishment, sparking tension across the country. Feeling threatened by the rising strain, the divided court turn to their own schemes for selfish benefit. The Guises commit unholy acts while the Bourbons turn to a familiar foreign sovereign, Queen Elizabeth I (Minnie Driver) of England in hopes of personal gain. As France falls into political and religious turmoil, Catherine struggles to maintain her power, but The Serpent Queen will do whatever she needs to regain control.
Faye (Premieres July 13)
The HBO Original documentary Faye debuts on Crave following its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The first feature documentary of the Hollywood legend, Faye Dunaway candidly discusses the triumphs and challenges of her illustrious career, with breakthrough, roles in Bonnie & Clyde, Chinatown, and Network – for which she won Best Actress in 1977 – while also reflecting on the film Mommie Dearest, which she views as a critical career misstep. Through those reflections, she courageously explores personal discoveries including her struggles with mental health issues and bipolar disorder, her family history growing up in a small town in Florida, and how the intensity of the characters she played still impacts who she is today.
Emperor of Ocean Park, Season 1 (Premieres July 15)
Set in the worlds of politics, Ivy League academia, and the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard, this series centres on Talcott Garland (Grantham Coleman), an Ivy League law professor whose quiet life is shattered when his father, Judge Oliver Garland (Forest Whitaker), dies of an apparent heart attack. The nature of the judge’s death is questioned by Tal’s sister, Mariah (Tiffany Mack), a former journalist and long-established conspiracy theorist, who believes that the judge was the victim of foul play.
Snowpiercer, Season 4 (Premieres July 16)
Nine months after Snowpiercer and Big Alice parted ways, Till (Mickey Sumner) and Ben (Iddo Goldberg) encounter unforeseen enemies when Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) sends them off the train on a reconnaissance mission. Meanwhile, the residents of New Eden face uncertain times and unknown adversaries, compelling them to further confront the complexities of their new reality. Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland. Class warfare, social injustice, and the politics of survival play out in the drama based on the graphic novel series by Jacques Lob and Jean-March Rochette.
Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs. The World, Season 2 (Premieres July 19)
Season 2 sees Queens from the international Drag Race family compete to become Queen of the mother-pucking world! With Canada resuming host nation duties, this six-episode battle brings back fan-favourites and top talent from across the globe to battle it out in an elite competition, with a thirst for victory, and one queen left standing.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (Premieres July 26)
The Spengler family returns to the New York City firehouse where the original Ghostbusters have taken ghost-busting to the next level. The discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must unite to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age.
Disney+ Canada
Trafficked: Underworlds with Mariana van Zeller, Season 1 (Premieres July 3)
Award-winning journalist Mariana van Zeller investigates new emerging underworlds, including the trade in body parts, hired assassins, sextortion and the smuggling of people across the U.S.-Mexico border, to meet the players and learn the business.
Land of Tanabata (Premieres July 4)
Yoji Minamimaru, known as Nanmaru, is a university student with a supernatural ability to create small holes in anything. One day, Yoji finds out that the professor of folklore studies has gone missing. Together with his classmates, he decides to search for the professor.
Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer (Premieres July 11)
A new perspective on the woman whose crime-hunting innovations changed history; to stop serial killers, Dr. Ann Burgess must first learn to think like one; Burgess investigates and studies the damaged psyches of victims and their attackers.
Descendants: The Rise of Red (Premieres July 12)
Now Headmaster of Auradon Prep, former Villain Kid Uma extends an invite to the school to another VK – Red, the rebellious daughter of the tyrannical Queen of Hearts from Wonderland. The Queen of Hearts has long held a grudge against Auradon, especially against Cinderella, and seizes the opportunity to seek revenge when she drops her daughter off at school. Futurama, Season 12 (Premieres July 29)

Clueless (Premieres July 8)
Shallow, rich and popular, Cher (Alicia Silverstone) runs Beverly Hills high school. Tai (Brittany Murphy), the new student at the school, falls under Cher’s radar, getting her swept up under Cher’s wing. But when Tai becomes more popular than her, Cher starts to prey on her new friend’s downfall.

Receiver (Premiers July 10)
It’s been said that there’s no more difficult position in the NFL than the quarterback. But throwing the pass is only half the story. Receiver follows five of the NFL’s best pass catchers throughout the 2023 season on and off the field: Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Vikings: Valhalla, Season 3 (Premieres July 10)

Exploding Kittens (Premieres July 12)
Based on the popular game of the same name comes a new series. Earth sucks, so God (Tom Ellis) gets fired and sent to Earth to reconnect with humanity. The catch? He's trapped in the body of a chubby house cat. As part of his rehabilitation, he moves in with a dysfunctional family and tries to solve their problems, but ends up spending a lot of time chasing laser pointers.
